Dr. Terry Murphy
Vice-President, Academic and Research

Dr. Terry Murphy was appointed to the position of Vice-President, Academic and Research at Saint Mary’s University on July 1, 2001. He is also Secretary of the University’s Board of Governors.

Dr. Murphy, a specialist in the religious history of Canada, graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1968 and was the recipient of the University’s Gold Medal in Arts and the Governor General’s Medal for Academic Excellence. He then went on to earn a Master of Arts (MA) Degree in Theology from Fordham University, and a PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

Dr. Murphy is a also a member of the Boards of the Atlantic Metropolis Centre, ACEnet; a regional consortium in high performance computing, and Saint Mary’s Centre for Leadership Excellence, and serves on the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission.

Dr. Murphy began his teaching career at Memorial in 1975. From 1993-2001, he served as Dean of Arts at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He was also chair of Memorial’s Religious Studies Department from 1986 to 1993.
