Catherine Meade
Legal Counsel and Communications Manager, Bell Aliant
As a member of the Bell Aliant Legal Team, Catherine focuses primarily on Employment Law matters. She is also involved in and oversees numerous Communications & Public Affairs projects. Prior to joining Bell Aliant, Catherine worked for a number of years in private legal practice both in Toronto and in Halifax.
Catherine earned a B.P.E. degree from McMaster University, an M.A. degree focusing on sport administration and management from the University of Alberta, and an LL.B. degree, cum laude, from the University of Ottawa.
Catherine has a long history of community involvement. She has served on the boards of women's shelters, the National Association of Women & Law and numerous other community organizations and is currently on the Program Development Committee of the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF).
Catherine also has an extensive volunteer background in mainstream sport, highlights of which include working as an Athletics Field of Play Marshal at the 1996 Olympic Games and coordinating Women's Soccer for the 1993 World University Games. In addition, she founded and was Co-President of the Gay & Lesbian International Sport Association and oversaw the delivery of the 2006 World Outgames in Montreal.
Before commencing her law degree, Catherine worked as a human rights/equity professional for eight years with organizations such as: the Canadian Human Rights Commission, Acadia University and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.
