The Annual Lecture in Public Philosophy

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Public Affairs (CCEPA) and Saint Mary's University Department of Philosophy are pleased to present the 2010-2011 Annual Lecture in Public Philosophy:

Evils and Inexcusable Wrongs

Dr. Claudia Card, Professor of Philosophy, University of Wisconsin- Madison

Dr. Card will explore what distinguishes real evils from lesser wrongs from a secular point of view. She will offer the theory that evils are reasonably foreseeable intolerable harms produced by inexcusable wrongs. To illustrate her claims, as it relates to individual acts and social practices, Dr. Card will consider the death penalty debate
